Lil' Mama Squirrel

Watching the feeder for birds and squirrels may be the only thing that keeps me from going mad some days and let me just say, I am thankful for every little critter that entertains me on a daily basis.

I'd been missing a couple of my little squirrel friends and should have know what was happening. Last time I saw this little gal she was quite plump and looked a little miserable with the heat and extra weight.

She seems to have lost a little weight. I am guessing about 3-4 small kits worth. And nursing as she surely is, she is ravenous. She's gorging on the black oil sunflower seeds in the feeder.

She seems in good spirits and doesn't mind giving me a little chatter.

This is her first litter; she was only born early spring herself. She's small. Her mother was extremely large but I am sure many more years older than this gal is now. Her mother left about mid summer and I haven't seen her since.

As little as this young mama is, she's fierce. I am not sure what got her attention but she's on it, and from the looks of her, not playing any games.

It's not long before she's back to munching and chattering to me at the window.

But not too long before I realize what she was chattering about before. Her brother or mate has arrived, which usually means an instant tussle and a gob of chatter but she's paying too much attention to me to realize he is there right away.

She's gets it soon enough, the wrestling matched ensued, and she was out of there.

Little man here though, he stuck around awhile and stuffed himself at least long enough to get caught a few times by my lens.
